Lorenzo Etherington

As Studio Blink Twice, Lorenzo and his brother Robin have been producing a large of self-published work over the past few years. Their most complete work is the 12-issue Malcolm Magic, a fast-paced and fast-witted story of an inebriated rabbit and his adventures on the borders of reality. Lorenzo's art is insanely detailed and he's bloody fast at drawing it too! The closest stuff I've seen is work by French artists such as Frezzato and Uderzo (Asterix.) Highly recommended and really nice guys to boot.

My third Lorenzo sketch, this time while he was at The DFC stand for a while. Both he and Bob were holding court and we had a great discussion about their work and how The DFC is getting on with their subscription model (rather than selling through newsagents and supermarkets.) Again, it's impossible to overstate how fast and detailed Lorenzo is! This sketch is of their DFC strip Monkey Nuts - I'll definitely have to get a Malcolm Magic next time! This was one of my first stops at the Bristol convention and Lorenzo asked if he could draw outside of the box area. I was more than happy with that but, as he was getting into it, he declared that he wanted to colour it and so I wrote my name and address on the back so he could post it at a later date. A few weeks later, I received an envelope with this sketch inside - my to the surprise of both myself and the rest of the office! I couldn't believe what a great job he'd done - gone completely nuts on a sketch and to that much detail! If you've seen any of the guy's Malcolm Magic and Moon stuff, you'll know insanely detailed and funny their work is. Now they're doing Monkey Nuts for The DFC and it looks like it continues that grand tradition. (Bristol International Comics Expo 2008)

I should have bought the Malcolm Magic books at Bristol back in May but there were so many things to look at that day, I was a little overwhelmed. On the orders of Ben, I made a point of introducing myself properly and asking Lorenzo for a sketch. Not only did I have a really good chat with both brothers (at least half an hour on subjects as wide ranging as animation and comics) but I purchased the complete run of Malcolm Magic for my bedtime reading. And very good they are too - with stories just as bizarre and scatological as the artwork! (Birmingham International Comic Show 2007)
