I stayed at the Mercure hotel for a while, talking to a few people and getting a round of sketches. With the Kevin O'Neill signing still going on, the main room was suddenly quiet so I quickly nipped around to get some more. This makes me sound like some sort of predator, prowling the corridors for artist prey, but I've found it best to get to people early before things get busy as they'll spend more time on their drawings. On my list of people to see was Gilbert Shelton who had recently published a collection of his Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, a book I'd seen previously in London. It looked like good fun and a great example of the American Underground Comics from the late sixties and early seventies. I picked up a copy of the book and got the above sketch as well.
