Gary Erskine
Gary began drawing for Marvel UK in 1988 and has been artist on a number of titles, such as Judge Dredd, Knights of Pendragon, Star Wars, Army @ Love and The Filth. Most recently, Gary was the artist for Dan Dare

I met Gary at my first convention a few years ago and it's always good to catch up with him. We had a really good chat on the Friday night about the media industry, films, comics, producers and the challenges of publishing. So, for my first sketch of this convention, I went and got my copies of Army @ Love signed and Gary did me a Batman study. He has a penchant for the caped crusader and this is my second sketch of the bat by Gary (i have another by Patrick Goddard). There is something very graphic and statuesque about Batman that works really well as a heavily-shadowed ink drawing. An iconic silhouette. (Birmingham International Comics Show 2009)

It was good to see Gary again after I missed him at the last Birmingham convention (too long standing in queues on the last day!) He was on the Com.X stand on the Sunday and he drew me this excellent Batman sketch. Very moody and brooding. (Bristol International Comics Expo 2009)

I'd met Gary at the Birmingham convention last year and had a great chat with him in the bar about Ridley Scott and the merits of HD television. I had no idea who he was at the time (my usual ignorance about most artists in the industry) but was pleased to learn afterwards that he was the new artist for Virgin's newly-launched Dan Dare comic. Sadly, the comic ended after seven issues and not long before the eventual restructuring of the company. This drawing was therefore done after the last issue was out but hopefully it won't be the last time Gary will get to draw Dare! (Bristol International Comics Expo 2008)
