Reydon, a young man who spends his days playing ‘Battle' in a perfect, utopian society, realises that he has grown tired of his faultless lifestyle and wants to find something more meaningful to achieve. However, his friend, the robot Kasta, has other ideas and tries to persuade him otherwise.

Something Real was filmed in one day on Digibeta and then four months in post production for the special effects, colour correction and sounds effects to be added. It is the first in a mooted trilogy of three science fiction shorts, all exploring the theme of the future of humanity and how it can survive when there is no longer any need for it to exist.
